Edit a live form without losing a single answer

Rename, reword, add or delete questions on a form that is already collecting responses. Every response stays tied to the version it was answered on, and people halfway through keep their place.

Free forever, no credit card.

A form rarely stays the way you launched it. A question turns out to be unclear, an option is missing, the price changes, a field is no longer needed. In many form builders that edit has a cost: delete a question and its answers go with it, rename one and old responses quietly change meaning, publish while someone is filling it in and they lose what they typed.

Here, editing a form that’s already live is a normal thing to do.

Your changes wait until you publish

The builder always edits a draft. Respondents keep seeing the published form while you rework it, so nobody sees a half-finished change. When you publish, you get a plain list of what will go live (Added “Mobile”, Renamed “Company” to “Organisation”, Made “Email” required) and a warning if a workflow uses a question you’re about to remove. Deleting a question that a condition or calculation depends on tells you what will stop working first.

Each publish is a version. You can discard a draft, or put an earlier version back and publish it again.

Old responses keep what was asked

Every response remembers the version of the form it was answered on.

  • Opening a response shows the questions as they were asked then, including ones you’ve since renamed or deleted, and the option the respondent actually picked.
  • Deleting a question removes it from the form, not from your data. Its answers stay in the responses and keep their own column in the export.
  • Changing options doesn’t rewrite history: each answer keeps the label the respondent saw, and options you removed still show in the summary for the answers that used them.
  • The export has a Version column, so you can tell which answers came from which wording.

People halfway through keep their place

Someone who opened the form before you published can finish on the version they started. Their answers are checked against that version, so a question you just added or made required doesn’t block them. That holds for 24 hours; a page left open longer is asked to reload.

When they do reload, their answers come back. Answers to questions that are still there are filled in again; an answer to a question you removed is left out, and a choice you removed is unticked while the others stay.

Payments are the exception

If the new version would charge differently (a new price or currency, one-time switched to a subscription, a payment added or removed) the old version is refused straight away and the respondent is asked to reload before they pay. Nobody pays a price you’ve already changed.

Good for

Forms that run for months: applications, registrations, intake and order forms, anything shared widely or embedded on a site, where taking the form down to fix a typo isn’t an option and losing earlier answers isn’t either.
